Date of Event : Sun Oct 8, 2017 10:20PM

Round 1 Weekly Wrap Up proudly sponsored by this weeks Match Day Sponsor - Evolution Hair Co.

With the A Grade compeition suspended for a further week, Port Stephens were still represented in the remaining three grades.

Our 4th XI side took on SMR and after winning the toss elected to bat. Nathan Humble (39) and Nick Drain (8) put on 51 for the first wicket before Warren Herbert (42) and Ethan Locock (25) led the pythons to 2 for 118. Unfortunately, four wickets fell for 2 runs with Chad Nolan (11) wagging the tail with his son Jackson Avery (2no) to push the Pythons to 145 all out.

The pythons began to defend their total with the perfect start, Stu Ellis (2/12 off 5) picking up a wicket with the first ball of the innings, collecting his second just 3 balls later. Jason Morrison picked up his only wicket 4 balls into his first over to have SMR at 3 for 0. A middle order revival from SMR pushed them above 50 before Warren Herbert (2/15 off 5) was again the star, dismissing Rob Maniski for 13 and Rylee Borrow for 1. Darren Morrison, Chad Nolan and Brett South all picked a wicket each before Nick Drain ended SMR's innings with figures of 2/5 cleaning up the tail.

Warren Herbert was 4th XI's Players Player for the match.

At Seaham, 11 Pythons made their debuts for the club as our 3rd XI took on the home side. Losing the toss and being sent in, opener Blake McKee was dropped on the first and fifth balls of the innings before top scoring with 38 for the Pythons. McKee was dismissed at 3/55, with Josh Richardson (0) soon following and the Pythons had slumped to 4/59. Glenn Stapleton and Jordan Rimmington both compiled 25 but Dave Freeman (36 not out) pushed the newly formed team to 8 for 163.

Seaham was steady in their run chase losing wickets at regular intervals but cruising to a 3 wicket victory with 5 overs to spare. Rimmington (2/22 off 5), Harry Reid (2/16 off 3) and Dave Freeman (2/13 off 3) were the stand outs with ball in hand, unfortunately it wasn't enough to get the 4 points for the boys.

Dave Freeman was 3rd XI's Players' Player for the match.

Our 2nd XI side begun their title defence in emphatic style, crushing Raworth by 170 runs. With a few new recruits and returning Pythons chipping in to post a massive 8/251 off their 40 overs. Jeff Young on his Pythons debut opened the batting and hit 6 fours and 2 sixes on his way to 58, but it was Simon Dalton (81no) and in his first hit for the club in over two seasons Blair Lane was dismissed for 41 off 36 batting at 8.

Just like our 4th XI side, the boys got straight to work with the ball in hand and had Raworth reeling at 4/14 and then 5/24 before taking the foot off the throat and finally dismissing the Rabbitohs for 81 in the 27th over. Jeremy Kirk (3/14 off 8) and Matt Dean (3/18 off 5) were the two main destroyers, but were ably assisted by Liam Eveleigh who took the new rock and bowled four tight overs to take home figures of 0/4 and Brendon Sinclair who bowled 2 maidens finishing with 0/5 off 3. Locky Davies (1/14) picked up his first Pythons wicket and Craig Hunter picked up two late wickets as the boys celebrated a first round victory.

Simon Dalton was named Players' Player for the match, however, Jeff Young was handed the Players' Player mug and enjoyed his free schooners at the Clare Castle Hotel on his behalf.
